Stephen Jones is hoping a Saturday cleanup event will inspire citizens to make Columbus a nicer place.
The newly-elected Ward 5 councilman is hosting a cleanup day in his ward, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Cleaning teams will meet at Sims Scott Park and Lee Park and spread across the ward from those areas. Garbage bags will be provided and collected after the event, according to a city press release.
Jones said he’s wanted to host an event to deal with trash scattered around Ward 5.
“All of us want our city to be clean and well-kept,” he said. “It is easy to look over litter and trash on our roadways and even areas that just need a little attention. That is what we plan to do this Saturday in Ward 5. We plan to come out and spend a small amount of time on Saturday morning and know it can show great results.”
Jones said he hopes Saturday’s event will inspire similar ones elsewhere throughout the city.
“I also want to do this more than one time a year,” he said. “Maybe three times a year or four times a year — whatever it takes to make people see we’re serious about it.”
Saturday’s cleanup even is focused on Ward 5. However, Jones said anyone who wants to take part is welcome to come out and help.
