A 46-year-old woman is dead following a house fire Friday morning in East Columbus.
Columbus Fire & Rescue responded to a call about a house fire on Cannon Trace about 6 a.m. Friday, according to Anthony Colom, public information officer with CFR.
Authorities pronounced Rechelle Heard, of Columbus, dead at the scene, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant. He said more information will be available following a Monday autopsy.
Colom said firefighters had the fire under control within five to 10 minutes after arriving at the scene.
There were two other people in the house in addition to the victim, according to Colom. Both managed to escape.
Colom said the fire remains under investigation.
