Friday’s meeting of the Lowndes County School District was its last before the end of the 2015-16 school year, and the board used it as an opportunity to recognize students and parents.
The board recognized the West Lowndes High School Junior ROTC for its Distinguish Service Award and for becoming the only ROTC program in the state, and just one of 47 nationwide to have reached its community service goal.
The board also recognized Jay Little, a senior at West Lowndes High School, for being chosen for the Gates Millennium Scholarship.
Caledonia’s golf team, which won its first state championship this spring, also was honored by the board, as were New Hope’s middle school and high school robotics teams, which won state championships as well.
Cody White and Parker Humber of Caledonia High were also recognized for winning state championships in bass angling.
The board also saluted its parents of the year, a list that included Alicia James (West Lowndes Elementary School), Amy Bradley (New Hope High School), Liberty Crawford (New Hope Elementary School) and Beth Clark (Caledonia Elementary School). Clark was chosen as the district’s overall parent of the year.
