STARKVILLE – The second suspect wanted in connection with a weekend shooting on North Montgomery Street turned himself in to police just before lunch Tuesday, Starkville Police Sgt. Chadd Garnett said.
Dionte Doss, 21, of 709 Roundhouse Road, was charged with aggravated assault and could face additional charges. The other suspect in the shooting, Antonio Hart, 29, of 508 Inca Drive, already was in police custody. Hart was arrested Saturday morning around 6 a.m. when police responded to a domestic disturbance call at Hart”s mother”s home and officers recognized him as one of the suspects in the shooting, Garnett said.
The incident between the victim and the two suspects began at a club in another county, Garnett said, though he didn”t specify where. Later, when the victim and his passenger arrived home at Shady Nook Apartments between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., Hart and Doss approached from the Mae Street area and began firing at the victim and his passenger, Garnett said.
Hart also shot into the victim”s apartment, where the victim”s relatives slept, and was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, Garnett said.
Police initially responded to a call of shots fired and canvassed the area, but the search didn”t yield any suspects. Police then received a call from Oktibbeha County Hospital, where the victim was being treated for his wounds. The injuries were non-life-threatening and he eventually was released from the hospital.
The victim and his passenger, neither of whom were identified by police, were able to identify the suspects, Garnett said.
Doss told police he would turn himself in Saturday afternoon, but never showed, Garnett said. Police released information about Doss Monday and considered him armed and dangerous. He turned himself in less than 24 hours later.
