NEW ORLEANS — Authorities say a man has been killed and two others, including a Louisiana state trooper, have been injured following two crashes that occurred after a driver pulled over to urinate.
Citing a police statement, The Times-Picayune reports the incident happened early Sunday when Louis R. Hernandez, of Meridian, Mississippi, pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of Interstate 10 in St. Charles Parish.
Police say another driver, 42-year-old Joel Ybarra of Little Rock, Arkansas, veered to avoid hitting Hernandez, crashing into 21-year-old David Vasquez-Dueno’s vehicle. Vasquez-Dueno of Houma died. Ybarra was critically injured and taken to a hospital.
An unidentified trooper responded to the scene when 34-year-old James F. Osborne IV of Baton Rouge struck his vehicle.
That trooper was taken to the hospital. Police say Osborne faces several charges including driving while intoxicated.
