The downtown Columbus YMCA will host a Zumbathon from 9-11 a.m. Saturday to benefit Haiti earthquake victims.
The entry fee is a $10 donation to Haiti earthquake victims. Donations of a greater amount may be made to the YMCA Haiti Relief Fund and dropped off at any Lowndes County YMCA branch prior to Saturday or on the day of the Zumbathon.
Professional Zumba instructors will travel from Memphis, Tenn., for the event. They will showcase the newest Zumba ZIN25 moves and music. Zumba is a group fitness program that fuses Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow dance moves.
The YMCA Zumbathon is open to the public. Men and women of all fitness levels are invited to participate. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent.
The YMCA currently offers Zumba classes at the downtown and New Hope, and Caledonia branches.
“The Zumba program has really taken off at the Y. We thought this would be a fun way to bring the local community together to make a difference for the people of Haiti,” said Barbara Bigelow, YMCA director of community relations.
