A Columbus man is dead after being shot Tuesday night at a Main Street convenience store.
Deanthony Jones, 23, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at 1:18 a.m. today, according to Greg Merchant, coroner for Lowndes County.
Jones was shot at Sandfield One Stop shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to Capt. Brent Swan with the Columbus Police Department.
No arrest has been made in the case.
Authorities declined to say where Jones was shot or how many times. Merchant said the shooting followed some sort of altercation.
CPD responded to the convenience store at 2408 Main St. after receiving a call about a person being shot at approximately 10:51 p.m.
Jones was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where he was pronounced dead.
An employee at the convenience store said this morning that the shooting occurred outside, near the front door.
The incident remains under investigation.
