Jeffery Simmons was expected back in Macon Municipal Court today, but his lawyer, Jay Perry of Starkville, said Monday his case is expected to be continued for a second time.
The Mississippi State University football player and former Noxubee County High School standout was arrested and charged with simple assault and disturbing the peace — both misdemeanors — in March after a video surfaced of him allegedly striking a woman.
He is currently enrolled at MSU and was allowed on the football team, under conditions. He will be suspended for the first game of his college career.
Simmons was in court May 10, but was granted a continuance after a dispute with the amount of restitution the victim, Sophia Taylor, was seeking.
Perry said no date has been set for Simmons’ next appearance in court.
