A group of Lowndes County leaders is inviting the public take a walk — or a run — for a worthy cause.
The Safe Haven Spring Benefit Fun Walk/Run is set for Saturday, March 27, at the Columbus Riverwalk. The event benefits Safe Haven, a Columbus-based domestic violence shelter for women and children escaping abusive relationships.
Registration begins at 7:15 a.m., and the walk/run begins at 8 a.m. Entry fees are $15 per person for early registration; $18 on the day of the run; and $10 for students. Children 12 and under are free, with the donation of a gently used clothing item, which will be donated to the shelter.
Participants will receive a complimentary gift cup, and will be automatically be entered into a raffle for prizes the day of the race including savings bonds, gift cards, and other items. Refreshments will be provided.
The walk/run is being organized by the 2010 Leadership Lowndes County class, which has adopted Safe Haven. Funds raised during the benefit walk/run will go to much-needed repairs and renovations at the shelter. Leadership Lowndes is a program of the Columbus Lowndes Development Link.
Entry forms can be downloaded at the event”s Web site, www.safehavenfunrun.weebly.com. For more information, call 662-328-2787.
