For a second year, Camp with a Mission, an inclusive day camp for individuals with special needs, will take place at Stark Recreation Center on the Mississippi University for Women campus. The day-camp offering swimming, arts and crafts and other recreation is open to ages 12 and up. It is presented by the nonprofit organization Special Needs, Special Spirit.
Monday marks the first day of the camp that will meet three days next week and the following week — July 11, 12, 14, 18, 19 and 21. A fee of $50 covers all six days, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Campers should bring their own sack lunch. Scholarships may be available.
“Last year, camp was a great success,” said Norma Jones of the Special Needs, Special Spirit camp committee. “This promises to be an awesome time of fun, recreation and socialization.”
The 501(c)(3) organization’s mission is to search for and seize opportunities to improve the quality of life for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Other events and programs are scheduled throughout the year.
