Everyone needs advice sometimes. Occasionally, that can even be advice on who to turn to.
Seeds Counseling and Wellness, operated by Karla Drake Morgan, is newly located in Columbus, at the Walt Porter Counseling Center, 602 College St.
Morgan began using the counseling center for her private practice July 5. Previously Shepherd’s Touch Counseling Center, the center was renamed Nov. 22, 2015, in honor of Walter Porter who originally established it.
Prior to entering her private practice, Morgan was employed as a school counselor in Starkville for nine years.
Morgan said she turned to private practice out of a desire to connect deeper with her clients and join with them in their development. She was inspired by her experience with adolescents during her time in the school system. She said counseling is a natural fit for her and she is excited to return to her home in Columbus to continue her practice. In addition to her experience with adolescents, she specializes in perinatal counseling, focused on the time encompassing pregnancy and the first postpartum year.
She will start hosting a postpartum counseling group 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the counseling center.
Those in need of consultation about marketing a business may instead turn to Karen Stanley’s Neon Frog, which will relocate Sept. 1 to 517 Main St. in the old Odd Fellows building.
Neon Frog provides marketing and public relations services ranging from simple graphic design to web design, event planning and even some training. The company relies on freelance designers in order to keep the services provided cost-efficient and affordable for clients. Stanley works on a regular basis with some clients and as-needed for others. Her goal with Neon Frog is to help companies “never blend in” and help clients shine in their best format.
When looking at the new location, Stanley said it was important to her to remain downtown, where so many of her clients were already based and she was very pleased to find the location on Main Street.
Before opening Neon Frog, Stanley worked as a marketing director for several years.
A new pet supply store will move to Starkville in the near future. Petsense, a chain retail store, is hiring in preparation to open a Starkville location Aug. 18. The store, located at 624 Hwy. 12 E., offers pet products and services at competitive prices.
