A 2014 murder case is going to Oktibbeha County jurors today in circuit court.
Immanuel “Papoose” Manning, 44, is accused of murder in the March 2014 shooting death of 35-year-old Christopher Houston.
Houston was killed the night of March 7, 2014, after a shooting at the University Hills Mobile Home Park, which is east of Starkville on Highway 182. He died from a single gunshot wound.
The shooting reportedly occurred at about 8:45 p.m. March 7, and Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department deputies, county firefighters and medical responders were sent to the scene at about 9 p.m.
Manning was arrested later that night in Rankin County after OCSD informed Pearl Police Department that Manning was believed to be traveling to the area.
Both sides rested their cases Wednesday afternoon. Jackson lawyer Ross Barnett Jr. is defending Manning. Assistant district attorneys Scott Rogillio and Trina Davidson-Brooks are representing the state.
The jury will begin deliberation after hearing closing arguments from both sides this morning.
Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens is presiding over Manning’s case.
