Columbus police officers are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery at the Dollar Tree near the store’s closing time Sunday night.
At about 9 p.m. Sunday, the CPD received a call that the Dollar Tree in Gateway Shopping Center had been robbed, said Columbus Public Information Officer Joe Dillon. A black male wearing a mask entered the store and threatened a clerk with a stun gun. He left on foot in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Dillon said police do not know whether the suspect used the weapon but no one was hospitalized as a result of the incident.
Police do not know whether this robbery is connected to any other robberies from last week, but Dillon said this is the first time a suspect has used a stun gun, rather than the more conventional firearm, in recent crimes. The use of a stun gun carries the same penalties as the use of a firearm, Dillon added.
CPD is still investigating the case.
