A “southern soul food revival” is coming to Starkville.
Moe’s Original BBQ will open next week in the location of the Old Venice restaurant. Kiel Hebert, a Mississippi State Alum, will be opening the restaurant with co-owner Whit Stuckey at 110 E. Main St.
The Colorado-based franchise, founded by three Alabama boys, serves Alabama-style barbecue with freshly smoked pork, chicken and turkey. Also offered will be fried catfish and shrimp, and each meal is served with freshly prepared, made-from-scratch sides.
Moe’s will be open from 11 a.m.-midnight Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Friday-Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. The kitchen will close at 9 every night while the bar will continue to serve drinks. There are plans for the restaurant to employ between 30-40 locals once fully operational.
Hebert is a native of Madison and Stuckey is a native of Brandon.
Danny’s Southern Diner is now open at 512 Alabama St. in Columbus, the former location of Pigout BBQ.
Danny’s is a locally owned family restaurant owned by Danny Osborne and managed by his children, Delphannie and Darrell Osborne. The restaurant opened June 1.
Delphannie said she feels it’s the restaurant’s job to provide both good food and a friendly Christian atmosphere. Danny’s participates in the Summer Food Program, providing nutritious meals to preschool and school-age children, and connects with Community Counseling in community dinner visits.
The menu consists of southern style cuisine, including fried catfish and pan trout. It also offers unprocessed chicken and pork. Its meats are hand-breaded in house and hamburger patties are made by hand each day. The sides offered are fresh or frozen as the restaurant avoids canned products as much as possible. Delphannie added a new item she plans to include, a crunchy barbecue sandwich made with pulled-pork and skins.
The Osbornes employ 10 locals. Danny’s is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily, with hours sometimes varying based on increased business flow.
New to West Point is the Burger King located at 5454 US-45 Alt. The restaurant opened July 18 with hours from 6 a.m.-midnight daily.
