Columbus has lost yet another restaurant.
Backyard Burgers, located at 1913 Highway 45 N Suite B, closed last week. Rhett Real Estate is selling the lot located in front of Walmart.
Taylor Made Cake of New Hope owner Taylor Massey opened a new storefront Tuesday in Columbus.
Massey’s quality baked goods, which were voted the “Best of the Triangle” in September by Dispatch readers, will be offered from noon-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday at the new Columbus location, 210 Lincoln Road, Suite A, near Walmart.
Massey said she is excited to be opening the a second location after operating the family-run business in New Hope for nearly two years. The original bakery opened in October of 2014.
While the goods will initially be produced at the New Hope location, Cupcakes will offer an assortment of fresh products including, but not limited to, fudges, brownies, coffees and of course cupcakes. Clients seeking custom-made cakes, on the other hand, will still need to pursue them in the original location.
A new clothing store has opened in Starkville in the College Park Shopping Center.
Shirley Dawg’s, located at 100 Russell Street Unit 12, is a men’s and ladies’ clothing store that started in Corinth.
Brian and Julie Shirley opened the original Shirley Dawg’s in early 2012 as a T-shirt store. They later turned their focus to men’s and ladies’ apparel upon noticing a lack of men’s clothing stores. Noticing a similar lack in certain brands in the Starkville area, the Shirleys sought to bring their store to their college home town. The new location will focus on women’s fashion, offering everything from pajamas and T-shirts to game-day attire.
“Our goal is to bring something unique to the area,” Brian said.
The store is open from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
