The Boys and Girls Club of Columbus has put out a call for volunteers to help with its planned renovations and expansion.
The nonprofit organization, which provides after-school resources for children of all ages, was awarded a $50,000 grant from Lowe’s Home Improvement earlier this year, which it plans to use to expand the club’s teen center. The club needs local volunteers through the end of the year to help with cleanup, painting, landscaping, laying floor, installing cabinets and shelves and other renovations as needed, according to an email from the organization.
Employees from Lowe’s will be on site to handle the renovations and oversee other volunteers, according to local club Chief Executive Officer Nadia Colom.
The volunteer days begin Monday with Clean Out Day in which at least 40 volunteers are needed to clear out the rooms and prepare them for renovations. The club needs about 50 volunteers on Tuesday to help with landscaping and painting. Volunteer work resumes after Thanksgiving holidays on Dec. 19 and will continue on weekdays through the end of the year, excluding Dec. 23-26. Though Colom said the schedule is tentative, she hopes the new teen center will be open early next year.
Those who want to volunteer can contact the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus at 662-244-7090 and ask for club director Brittany Houston or volunteer coordinator Samantha Rogers.
