A Columbus man is in jail after allegedly cyberstalking a former romantic partner.
Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Newell, 31, of 262 Center Road, at his home Friday and charged him with one count of cyberstalking along with two misdemeanors. Newell is accused of threatening a Lowndes County resident with whom he used to be in a romantic relationship, said LCSO Capt. Ryan Rickert.
Newell had been sending the victim threatening text messages over a couple of weeks, Rickert said. The victim even filed a private affidavit for stalking, but the messages escalated until LCSO arrested Newell on the felony charge, he added.
Newell remains in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $8,980 bond, $7,500 of which stems from the cyberstalking charge.
