The Lowndes County Sheriff”s Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol are investigating two separate accidents — one with injuries, one without — that occurred this morning.
According to information provided by Lowndes County Sheriff”s Deputy Steve Hatcher, the two accidents occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of George “Happy” Irby Memorial Parkway and U.S. Highway 45 North, near the primary entrance to Columbus Air Force Base.
Hatcher said MHP is working the three-vehicle accident, and the LCSO is investigating the single-vehicle accident.
In the single-vehicle accident, a motorist was traveling north on Highway 45 when she saw a fire truck at the scene, Hatcher said.
“She did not realize how close she was to the fire truck, and she lost control and went off the side of the road,” Hatcher said. “She had no injuries, but there was minor damage to the vehicle.”
No other information was available at press time, but more is expected to be released later.
MHP did not have any information available about the three-vehicle accident, other than there were injuries involved.
