The Mississippi State University Extension Service is offering two programs next month for north Mississippi homeowners with private wells.
A news release says the Mississippi Well Owner Network will hold a workshop about well care and water sampling on Feb. 21 at the extension service office in Columbus.
That same day, the office will take water samples for analysis, which will cost $25 per sample.
People can get sample bottles and collection instructions at the office starting Feb. 13.
The samples must be taken within 12 hours before they’re dropped off on Feb. 21.
Workshop presenter Jason Barrett says about 10 percent of Mississippi households rely on private wells for their water. He says there are four counties where 40 percent of households have private wells.
