Caledonia Schools are one step closer to building nearly a dozen new rooms throughout the district.
Joey Henderson of JBHM Architects was given permission to proceed with preparations for the construction projects after $2.5 million in spending was approved by the Lowndes County school board Friday.
The money will add four new rooms to Caledonia High School ($622,500), four new kindergarten rooms at the elementary school ($907,500) and three-and-a-half rooms at the middle school ($513,000). The half room will serve as an in-school suspension room.
Henderson estimates the new rooms will be completed by next spring, and there”s an outside chance they”ll be done by Christmas.
The board also approved $11,000 spent by JBHM on a soil survey and investigation.
The board also recognized Advanced Placement Ambassador students from each of its campuses and the Jazz Band from West Lowndes Schools.
The AP Ambassadors recently spoke with parents at AP events at each campus and served as escorts and guides for presenters at the County Wide Career Fair March 25 at the Trotter Convention Center.
“These students have been indispensable for the AP program”s success,” said AP Outreach Coordinator Julie Duke.
