Authorities say the mother of a Columbus shooting suspect threatened a witness to her son’s alleged crime.
Law enforcement officers with the Lowndes County Joint Drug Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Velma Jean Williams, 53, of 1012 Fourth St. S., at her home Wednesday night, according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
Velma Williams is the mother of Terrance Williams, who was arrested Monday night for allegedly shooting several vehicles — two of which were occupied — outside The Princess Theater downtown early Sunday morning. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $1 million bond.
Velma Williams allegedly called and threatened the witness, according to the press release. She was charged with two counts of intimidating a witness.
Authorities would not release further details on the threats.
She was released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center Thursday night after posting $50,000 bond.
