Mississippi University for Women will welcome alumni back to campus for special events to celebrate Homecoming.
After registration on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m., the celebration will start with the Golden Girls Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon honoring the Class of 1960 will take place in Pope Banquet Room in the Hogarth Dining Center. Tickets for the Class of 1960 members are free of charge and $15 for all others.
A new event featured during Homecoming this year is the MUW Today presentation where academic and administrative leaders will present information on outstanding academic programs, campus initiatives, current enrollment and campus renovations. This will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Nissan Auditorium.
At 3 p.m., Student Alumni Association members will lead campus tours, and campus open houses will be held for various offices and programs.
From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., guests are invited to attend the art exhibition reception at the Eugenia Sumner Gallery in the Art and Design Building. The exhibition will display works by senior art students.
The Class of 1960 will celebrate 50 years with classmates at a reception that will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Puckett House. Heavy hors d”oeuvres will be served and tickets are $20.
There will be a musical theater performance at 7:30 p.m. at the Cromwell Communications Center. The performance will be based on MUW history.
The evening will conclude with the Homecoming Bash with the Culinary Arts Institute from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guests will be treated to South American food prepared by culinary students. The bash will be held in Cochran Ballroom and tickets are $40.
On Saturday, there will be a Homecoming brunch from 10 a.m. to noon in Pope Banquet Room. There will be special presentations and recognition of this year”s reunion classes. Tickets are $15.
At 1 p.m., the MUW Alumni Association will hold its annual meeting open to all alumni and friends in the Cochran Ballroom.
Participants are welcome to bring friends and family for food and entertainment from various student organizations at Springfest from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Shattuck Lawn.
The weekend will close with the Farewell Breakfast sponsored by the MUW Foundation from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Sunday, in Cochran Ballroom.
“It”s always exciting to have alumni on campus,” said Mary Margaret Roberts, executive director of alumni relations. “During Homecoming, they are able to visit with friends and remember their college days, and there also are opportunities to learn about MUW today and the outstanding educational experiences we provide for our current students.
