The second man wanted for his suspected role in a March 21 convenience store shooting is in custody, according to Columbus Police Department.
CPD. Capt. Brent Swan confirmed to The Dispatch that 26-year-old Justin Williams, of Columbus, turned himself in to authorities Tuesday afternoon.
Swan said CPD will interview Williams and hold his arraignment today to determine the charge, but he is likely facing a charge of aggravated assault for his alleged role in the shooting. Williams has been booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Williams was identified Tuesday as a person of interest in the March 21 shooting inside O-Kay Foods at 1801 Seventh Ave. N. that sent two men to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. One victim was later airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Police arrested 25-year-old Leronn Gregory, also of Columbus, on March 22 on suspicion of aggravated assault. Gregory, who was arrested at his home, is only accused of shooting one of the victims.
Though the investigation into the O-Kay Foods in ongoing, Swan said police have arrested the two primary suspects.
The shooting prompted a change in the store’s hours. Owner Mutee Nagi, facing pressure from city leadership, agreed to move the store’s closing time to 5 p.m. It had closed daily at 11 p.m.
City Attorney Jeff Turnage said the store has been the site of more than 120 incident reports in the past year, and Ward 5 Councilman Stephen Jones said there have been three shootings in the last two years at the store.
