A three-vehicle accident Thursday night on Main Street in Columbus sent three people to the hospital.
Andrew Johnson, of Columbus, was traveling north on Seventh Street South shortly before 11 p.m. with two passengers in his green 1995 Chevrolet Blazer when he ran a red light at Main Street and was struck on the driver”s side by Edward Hines, of Columbus, Columbus Police Department officials said.
Johnson”s Blazer flipped and came to rest on its roof in the road. Hines” 1993 Chevrolet pickup careened into a black 1999 Honda Accord driven by Marquette Givens, of Aberdeen, causing minor damage.
Johnson and one of his passengers exited the vehicle unassisted. The third passenger required assistance from the Columbus Fire Department to exit the Blazer. All three were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where they were treated and released.
No other injuries were reported.
Johnson was given a blood alcohol test and was found to be below the legal limit of 0.08. He was not charged with driving under the influence, but all drivers involved in the accident were cited for driving without proof of insurance pending presentation of insurance cards.
