A Crawford man has died after a collision Thursday between a logging truck and another vehicle on Highway 45 S. Alternate near Artesia.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the deceased passenger as Jervarious Antwane Jackson, 24. A deputy coroner pronounced Jackson dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly after 1 p.m.
Jackson was one of three people traveling south in a gold Nissan Maxima in the right lane of the highway. A logging truck headed the same direction in the left lane struck the Nissan when the car’s driver attempted to pull in front of the truck to reach a turn lane, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol officers who responded to the scene.
The driver of the Nissan, an unidentified female, was flown to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo where she remains in critical condition. An ambulance took a third passenger, an infant male, to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where he was treated and released.
The driver of the logging truck was not injured in the accident.
MHP is still investigating the wreck.
