Officers with West Point Police Department are asking for the public’s help with an investigation into a Friday drive-by shooting.
Police responded to the emergency room North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point at about 1:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a gunshot victim, according to a WPPD press release. The victim, whose name police have not released, was shot in the leg.
A witness with the victim told police the victim was shot at an apartment complex near Brame and Eshman Avenue in east West Point, the press release said. The victim and witness were getting out of their own car, when one gunshot came from another vehicle driving past, the witness told police.
“Investigators are following up on leads and we have a suspect,” WPPD Chief Tim Brinkley said. “However, it’s too early to release the name of the suspect.”
There is a reward of up to $1,000 through Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest in this case.”
Police are searching for the driver of a light blue Mercury Marquis for questioning, the press release said. Anyone with information is asked to call WPPD at 494-1244 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
