STARKVILLE — A day after fire tore through two buildings in the Campus Trails apartment complex, Starkville firefighters were back to work this afternoon for a house fire on Green Street.
Two contractors and one firefighter received minor injuries in the blaze, which began just before 2 p.m. at 410 Green St. and was under control in about 15 minutes, Starkville Fire Department Chief Rodger Mann said.
The fire began when contractors spilled a solvent used to remove floor tiles and the fumes from the solvent were ignited by a water heater, Mann said.
“Two of (the contractors) got their hair singed on their arms and on their faces a little bit when it flashed on them,” Mann said.
Only one person lives in the house, but he wasn”t home at the time of the blaze. The house received “moderate” damage, Mann said, and was left uninhabitable for the time being.
