A Lowndes County man accused of killing his son is out on bond.
Larry Johnson, 69, posted $50,000 bond Wednesday afternoon following his arraignment in Lowndes County Justice Court before Judge Peggy Phillips.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Johnson on Wednesday and charged him with murder in the shooting death of his son, 40-year-old Mitchell Drew Johnson, at their home at 46 River Lane in southern Lowndes County. Authorities found the body at about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. They said the suspect called 911 Tuesday morning — roughly 12 hours after the alleged incident occurred — and reported he had shot, and maybe killed, his son.
Drew Johnson’s body has been taken to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for autopsy.
Before setting bond at Wednesday’s arraignment, Phillips said she didn’t consider the suspect a flight risk, due to his being a property owner.
Larry Johnson’s attorney, Tim Hudson, declined to comment.
