WEST POINT — Approval of officers and discussion of putting together a Web page were among a few items discussed at Wednesday”s meeting of the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers.
The meeting was held at the West Point Growth Alliance building.
At last month”s meeting, Billy Pickens was nominated to serve as chairman, Eddie Scott was nominated as vice chairman, Fred Bell was nominated as treasurer and Gene Martin was nominated as secretary.
Board members unanimously approved those nominees to serve in those posts for another year.
During the open discussion at Wednesday”s meeting, Scott, who serves as chief deputy for the Clay County Sheriff”s Department, said he had a discussion recently with Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers coordinator Terrie Songer of the CPD about an Internet page for the organization.
Plans are in the making to get it going, but there had been some talk about what information to put on the page, which included the numbers of the different police and sheriffs departments that represent Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers, he said.
“It would be best to just have the toll-free number for Crime Stoppers listed instead of the other numbers. We need to get that number out,” he said.
The toll free number to contact the GT Crime Stoppers is 1-800-530-7151.
Pickens also discussed sending out a letter to current board members getting them to renew their commitment to serving on the GT Crime Stoppers board of directors.
“We also want to encourage those who know someone who may also be interested in serving to contact us, or come to a future meeting,” he said.
The board unanimously approved the treasurer”s report. Bell reported that the organization has more than $43,000 in its checking account.
The next scheduled meeting of the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers is May 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the West Point Growth Alliance building.
