JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Employment Security is on track to survive another year.
The state Senate on Thursday passed the final version of a bill authorizing the agency to stay alive during the fiscal year beginning July 1. The agency would come up for review again in 2011.
Gov. Haley Barbour is expected to sign the bill.
Earlier this week, the agency appeared to be in jeopardy.
A House chairman held the reauthorization bill because he wanted to force Barbour to accept some federal stimulus money for jobless benefits. The chairman released the agency”s reauthorization bill after a Senate committee agreed to vote on a recalculation of jobless benefits; the recalculation failed.
