Officers with the Columbus Police Department responded Friday to what is now believed to have been an accidental shooting at the home of an accused murderer.
The shooting occurred at about 4 p.m. at a home on Pandora Drive, according to CPD Assistant Police Chief Fred Shelton. The victim apparently was cleaning his gun when he accidentally shot himself, Shelton said.
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with non-life-threatening injuries, where he was responsive and talking with officers. Shelton said he doesn’t know the victim’s status at this time.
The victim is a family member of Eric Brewer, accused in the shooting death of 18-year-old Kwesi Hill in October 2016. Brewer, who is out of jail on bond, was in the home at the time of the shooting, but investigators do not believe he was involved.
No one has been charged in the shooting.
