Racing fans in Columbus can enjoy the addition of a new drag strip on East Railroad Drive near the Whitebury community.
After nine years of construction, Charles Watson is the proud owner of the fully operational C-City Dragstrip. With the help of close family friends, including Nathan Williams and Perry Hayes, Watson began work on the one-eighth-mile track in 2008 and opened the drag strip on June 11.
“The strip is about eight miles closer to Columbus than the previous strip,” Watson said regarding the business’ location. “We’ve got plenty of room for expansion, too, as the business grows.”
Ezel Sherrod, a Pickensville native and popular racer in the area, offered the track his approval.
The track is open 4-9 p.m. Sundays and will be in operation July 4.
At the beginning of June, the Columbus Dental Clinic at 2001 Old Aberdeen Road closed. But, Dr. John Fields has not left the dental practice just yet.
Fields was hired to operate the new Aspen Dental Clinic at 1616 Hwy. 45 N., which opens today. This new office is the company’s fourth clinic in Mississippi.
Aspen Dental offers new patients free exams and x-rays, a denture money back guarantee, discounted rates and accepts patients without dental insurance. Aspen is committed to offering affordable prices to its clients, working with all insurance providers and handling paperwork to save patients time and hassle.
Alongside these efforts to reduce prices, patients receive diagnoses and treatment plans with clear and detailed estimates on the costs of treatment.
The office is open 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Fridays and select Saturdays. Walk-in and emergency patients are welcome.
In downtown Columbus, Hollyhocks suffered a flooding incident on Sunday. While owner Gloria Herriott continues to recover the store from the unexpected water onslaught, the gift shop reopened Wednesday, continuing its regular hours.
Hollyhocks is located at 204 Fifth St. S. and is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
