A Columbus woman is behind bars after allegedly hitting two Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Susan Michael, 43, of 101 Fifth St. S., No. 3C, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of felony simple assault.
According to LCSO Capt. Ryan Rickert, Michael went into the sheriff’s office Monday morning and asked to speak with an investigator. When told the investigator wasn’t in the office at the time, Michael allegedly became combative and hit two deputies before being placed under arrest.
Neither deputy was seriously injured, though one went to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle to be checked out, Rickert said.
Assaulting a police officer, firefighter and certain other government employees is an automatic felony in Mississippi, regardless of whether the suspect uses a weapon.
Michael’s bond has been set at $15,000 per count. She was also charged with misdemeanor failure to obey a police officer, for which her bond was set at $270. She is still in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
