In June 2016, Wal-Mart announced that it would slowly begin phasing out its price matching policy at its stores. This policy was originally implemented as a way to maintain the promise to customers that Walmart stores would carry “always low prices.”
Now, at the end of July, the Walmart located on Highway 45 in Columbus will finally end its stint with the price-matching policy.
Wal-Mart will continue to offer competitive prices through a feature introduced in the corporation’s phone application in 2014. The feature is called “Savings Catcher” and allows customers to scan their receipts following a purchase. The app then checks advertisements from sellers in the area for lower prices and awards the customer with a Walmart eGift Card for the difference.
Columbus is the last Walmart in the Golden Triangle to offer the price-match service, with West Point discontinuing the policy last week and Starkville ending it earlier in the year.
Meanwhile, a family owned Mexican restaurant, Noel’s, opened last month in New Hope.
The restaurant offers a unique, classy take on the authentic Mexican dining experience featuring chips, tortilla shells and salsa all made in-house by owner Louie Valentin and his family.
The restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
In Starkville, the Hopeful House day care center recently opened.
Owner Hope Caldwell opened Hopeful House with the goal of “encouraging the elderly to hold on to their integrity and live with a feeling of purpose and hope.” The care center is a “home away from home” for the elderly, featuring a kitchen, dining area, exercise room, computer station, entertainment area, nurse’s office, screened-in porch, and quiet back deck.
Hopeful House aims to enrich the lives of its clients with daily activities, peer support and nutritious meals. The center offers clients a safe environment with many activities to improve and maintain mental and physical health alongside casual entertainment.
The care center, located at 6056 Hwy. 182 in Starkville, is open 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The day is split up into morning and afternoon sessions which clients may opt to attend. The morning session is from 7 a.m.-noon and the afternoon session runs from 12:30-5:30 p.m.
Attendance applications can be filled out at the center’s website: hopeful-house.com.
