The Noxubee County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a suspect in connection with a a double-shooting and homicide early Tuesday morning.
Noxubee County Sheriff Tony Grassaree said his office is pursuing Marcus Gardner, a black male in his mid-20s, in connection with the shootings.
“They were boyfriend and girlfriend,” Grassarree said.
The sheriff’s department responded to a call to Cockrell Quarters Road in Brooksville at about 6 a.m. Tuesday.
“A neighbor who was a relative called in and when we got to the scene we found a woman who was deceased and a child who had been shot but was still alive,” Grassaree said.
He said the child, a boy “about 5 or 6 years old,” was transported to the hospital.
Grassaree said his believes the shooting happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday.
The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin can be notified, he said.
