A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) facility recently opened in Columbus. PediaTrust, located at 306 Hospital Drive, took on its first patient June 23.
The facility is licensed to accept a maximum of 40 children. It currently hosts 13 children, not including applicants awaiting approval. Currently PediaTrust employs 11 in Columbus, including Director of Nursing Patricia Knight.
PPEC facilities accept children from birth to age 21 who require skilled nursing care. The number of RNs and CNAs required at a facility are regulated based on the current number of clients, for instance, the 13 clients at PediaTrust require at least five RNs and one CNA.
To further supplement the needs of clients, Kids Therapy Spot in Starkville offers physical, occupational and speech therapy at the facility and a special education teacher comes in every day to work with school age children.
While PediaTrust is offering personalized care to children, parents and guardians are offered daily and monthly progress assessments to keep track of education and therapy progress.
A grand opening will be held Sept. 15 with snacks and refreshments offered alongside an opportunity to tour the facilities.
PediaTrust is open from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. It provides bus transportation for customers who need it.
In Starkville, City Bagel Cafe has enhanced its menu and name with Italian flavors, becoming City Bagel Cafe & Italian Bistro.

Previously The Dispatch announced construction on a new Love’s Travel Stop in West Point would complete in early spring.
On July 13 that travel stop opened, bringing 65 new jobs to Clay County.
“West Point is ideal for Love’s because of it’s central location between the Starkville, Columbus and Tupelo areas,” said Tom Love, the founder and executive chairman of Love’s.
The 10,000 square-foot facility is the 13th Love’s Travel Stop in Mississippi. It features a new Arby’s restaurant and provides parking space for 67 trucks. To celebrate the new location, $2,000 was donated to Sally Kate Winters Memorial Children’s Home and a ribbon cutting was hosted July 25 by the West Point Chamber of Commerce.
Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores is based out of Oklahoma City. It was founded in 1964 and consists of over 430 locations in the States.
