Two Columbus men face charges from both Columbus Police Department and the Joint Drug Task Force after they allegedly opened fire on a vehicle on Lehmberg Road Wednesday.
CPD officers responded to a call about shots being fired at a vehicle at about 5:10 p.m., according to a press release from CPD. Witnesses told authorities two black men in a red pickup had fired at another vehicle on the road. The truck continued west onto Highway 50 and Highway 82 before taking the Military Road exit where units from CPD and the Joint Drug Task Force had the road blocked. A deputy from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office had followed the suspects.
Authorities have identified the driver as Kendrick Scott, 21, of 1802 11th Ave. N., and the passenger as Jameale Willis, 25, of 2414 22nd Ave. N., the press release said. There was also a 4-year-old child in the vehicle. Authorities called Mississippi Child Protective Services to take custody of the child.
Authorities also found narcotics and a handgun in the truck.
Both suspects are charged with child endangerment from the Joint Task Force and drive by shooting from CPD. Willis is also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Their bonds have not been set.
