On Saturday at 6 p.m., a reception will be held at Bost Extension Center on the campus of Mississippi State University to honor the recent retirement of Mississippi State House of Representative member Tyrone Ellis of District 38 (D-Starkville). A program honoring Rep. Ellis will begin at 6:45 pm.
The reception is free and open to the public. This event is being hosted by Mississippi State University, the City of Starkville and Oktibbeha County. It is open to the friends and constituents of the communities Ellis served during his career, including the counties of Oktibbeha, Clay, Lowndes and Noxubee.
Ellis announced his retirement from public office on June 30, after 38 years of service in the Mississippi House of Representatives.
“I have truly considered myself blessed and privileged to have served the citizens of District 38, as well as the citizens of Mississippi as a whole over the years,” Ellis said. “However, the time has come to close this chapter of my life and allow God to utilize me in another capacity.”
Throughout his almost four decades in the Mississippi Legislature, Ellis served on a number of different committees. Upon his retirement, Ellis was a member of the committees on Corrections, Judiciary B, Ways and Means, Apportionment and Elections, and Accountability, Efficiency and Transparency.
Ellis, a preacher at Running Water Baptist Church in Noxubee County, said he will continue his work as a pastor and servant to his community.
