An electric malfunction with the printing press led to The Dispatch’s Monday editions being delivered late.
Mike Floyd, circulation and production manager for The Dispatch, said today’s editions should arrive on time.
“We really don’t know for sure, but we think it may be the circuit board,” Floyd said. “So we’re taking that out to examine it and see if the problem is the circuit board or if there is something else wrong that is affecting the circuit board.”
Initially, The Dispatch had made arrangements with the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in Tupelo to print Monday’s edition as The Dispatch press room personnel worked to trouble-shoot the problem.
“We were able to run about half of the units on our press on one motor,” Floyd said. “When we realized we could run on one motor and that Tupelo hadn’t started running our editions, we made the decision to do the (entire) run on the one motor.”
The Dispatch’s press is typically driven by two 100-horsepower motors.
Monday’s press run of 11,000 newspapers was delivered anywhere to two to three hours late.
Floyd said even if the press isn’t completely repaired today, there should be no delays in production or delivery.
“We can do the entire run on the one motor we have working now,” Floyd said. “… Hopefully, we’ll find out the problem, get it fixed and get back to normal.”
