Investigators with Columbus Police Department are searching for two armed robbery suspects.
Officers responded to the 1800 block of 10th Avenue North Tuesday afternoon after a 57-year-old woman flagged down officers with Columbus Fire and Rescue to tell them she was being robbed, according to a CPD press release.
The victim was leaving Genesis Church on 18th Avenue North when two men approached her and asked her for a ride. She let them into the vehicle and drove them to 10th Avenue North.
At some point during the ride, one of the men pointed a handgun at her and demanded money. They took the victim’s cell phone and an undisclosed amount of money, which investigators said officers later found abandoned at the scene.
Once on 10th Avenue North, the victim spotted CFR officers on their way back to their station and honked her horn until she got their attention. The two suspects got out of the car and ran south toward Sim Scott Park.
The firefighters checked on the victim and used their radios to call CPD.
The suspects are described as black males in blue jeans and combat boots. One was wearing a gray tank top with a white t-shirt around his neck. The other had no shirt on.
