All nine Lowndes County Adult Detention Center employees on duty when an inmate escaped from the facility earlier this month have received "pretty serious discipline," according to sheriff's office chief deputy Marc Miley.
Authorities with multiple law enforcement agencies are still looking for Delvin Moore, 29, who manipulated the lock of his holding cell before escaping through the front door of the jail facility just after 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 2. He had been arrested a day earlier for an alleged armed robbery at the Highway 69 Sprint Mart and was suspected of several other armed robberies over the past year.
Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Task Force is offering a combined reward of $4,000 for information that leads to Moore's capture, Miley said.
Jail Administrator Rick Jones told The Dispatch for a previous article Moore was in a temporary holding area that does not have its own restroom facilities on the night of his escape. Jailers had escorted Moore to a restroom in another part of the jail, Jones said, where the inmate apparently gathered either paper towels or toilet paper and snuck it back into the holding area.
Moore then apparently stuffed the paper into the lock of his cell door to keep it from latching. Later, he pushed his cell door open and ran past guards at another door leading to the holding area -- Jones said the guards had just opened that door to release another inmate. Then, Moore ran out the front doors of the jail.
Miley would not confirm for The Dispatch on Thursday whether any of the nine jailers on duty faced further discipline or termination.
He did ask anyone with information on Moore's whereabouts to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or the U.S. Marshals Task Force at 662-701-7743.
