A truck collided with a train on Highway 69 early today, but the driver was nowhere to be found, Columbus police said.
A gray 1988 GMC pickup attempted to beat a train at the railroad crossing around 2:30 a.m. and got totaled in the process. The truck is registered to Lymon Panell, 57, of 603 Plain St., who is on probation with a suspended drivers license following his fourth DUI charge.
There were no witnesses to the accident so Columbus police could not say whether Panell was driving when the incident occurred. Panell called police later this morning to report his truck stolen, officials said.
Bob”s Towing took the accident call. Staff members at Bob”s said the truck”s front end is ruined with the right front side of the truck twisted over to the left side.
