Three people have qualified to run for the newly created third 16th Circuit Court judge seat, created in 2005 to represent Noxubee and Clay counties.
Lee S. Coleman, of West Point, submitted qualifying papers Jan. 5; Bob Marshall, of West Point, qualified April 30 and Nebra Porter, of West Point, submitted qualifying papers May 4.
Candidates for nonpartisan judicial offices had until May 7 to submit qualifying papers.
Incumbent candidates — Lee J. Howard, of Starkville, and James T. “Jim” Kitchens, of Columbus — earlier qualified for the District 16 Circuit Court judge seats.
Additionally, William Starks, of Columbus, submitted qualifying papers March 12 for a District 16 Circuit Court judge seat.
District 16 covers Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee and Oktibbeha counties.
All three incumbent candidates — Kenneth M. Burns, Dorothy W. Colom and Jim Davidson — qualified for the District 14 Chancery Court judge seat.
Burns, of Okolona, submitted qualifying papers Dec. 14; Colom, of Columbus, submitted qualifying papers Dec. 11 and Davidson, of Columbus, submitted qualifying papers on Dec. 11.
District 14 covers Chickasaw, Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee, Oktibbeha and Webster counties.
