The city of Columbus is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in a Thanksgiving Day murder outside the Trotter Convention Center, city officials announced Monday.
Columbus Police Department is investigating the shooting, which sent 27-year-old Cordell Deshaun Lewis to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle just after midnight on Nov. 23. Lewis was shot while walking among a crowd leaving the Citywide Kickback party, which had started the night before in the Trotter. He died later at the hospital.
Four CPD officers and two other security guards were present at the event, which about 800 people attended and which had been the scene of multiple scuffles throughout the night.
"There was a large crowd at the event and we believe someone saw something," CPD Chief Oscar Lewis said in a press release Monday. "We need that person to come forward and identify the person or persons responsible for this shooting."
Columbus City Council approved the monetary rewards for information leading to arrests and convictions of suspects accused of murder or aggravated assault last December. City officials believe the reward will encourage witnesses to come forward with information about outstanding cases.
A special Reward Line for Cordell Lewis' murder has been set up at 877-273-4552.
