After being open for a year, Therapeutic Pilates in Starkville is expanding.
The studio, which is currently located at 101 S. Lafayette St., Suite 17, will be moving to Suite 12 to a window-front studio just down the road.
Owner Katie Langley said she opened the studio in January 2017 unsure of the success it would have in Starkville. It is the only place in the area that offers Pilates-based rehab and therapy.
Since opening, Langley has only offered private physical therapy sessions with clients. However, with the expansion, she said she will begin to offer group Pilates classes and be able to expand services to her active clientele with new equipment.
“I’ve had a really great response,” Langley said. “I’ve noticed that my clients are moving better and feeling better.”
Langley said people of all ages can benefit from customized Pilates. Her oldest client so far, she said, is 80.
Also on South Lafayette Street, in Suite 31, Vibe, which was a start-up company that incubated in the Greater Starkville Development Partnership building, has moved to its own space.
Vibe was created by Kaylie Mitchell and Hagan Walker, who design and sell drinking cubes that glow in the dark. The light is liquid activated, so it turns on as soon as it hits a beverage.
Campus Knot, an online company that offers course management for Mississippi State University students, will be taking Vibe’s incubation space in the GSDP building.
Speaking of downtown Starkville, Scott Maynard, GSDP President and CEO, said Main Street currently has no vacancies, which is a good sign as the year comes to an end.
In fact, Maynard said, many downtown businesses have moved to Main Street storefronts in order to meet the needs of their growing business. For example, the R. Tabb & Company clothing store moved to a larger space on Main Street, and George Mary’s moved into R. Tabb’s old space, which was larger than their Lafayette Street suite.
“It’s really exciting to see businesses growing and expanding downtown,” Maynard said.
Moving to Highway 12, a new nail salon is scheduled to open soon.
Jacqueline Posley, Starkville building department clerk, said Happy Nails just received its certificate of occupancy this week.
Happy Nails will be located at 821 Highway 12 W., Suite BB.
