A suspect in a December armed robbery at the Mississippi University for Women is in custody and also facing burglary charges stemming from incidents this month.
Columbus police on Sunday arrested Dominico Joeta Saddler, 33, of Seventh Avenue South, on charges of armed robbery, burglary of a vehicle and residential burglary.
According to a city public information officer Joe Dillon, Saddler ran from police when officers attempted to serve him the vehicle burglary warrant at a hotel where he was staying on Highway 182. The suspect later broke into another Columbus residence, and was held there by police and the homeowner before being arrested, he said.
Saddler also is suspected in an armed robbery of a MUW employee at Fant Hall on Dec. 13. The suspect allegedly assaulted the victim -- who was not seriously injured -- and took several of the victim's personal items before fleeing the scene.
Police identified Saddler as the armed robbery suspect from a still-shot taken from surveillance footage on campus the night of the incident.
"I appreciate the inter-agency collaboration between the Columbus Police Department, the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and the MUW Police Department," MUW President Jim Borsig said in a joint press release from CPD and the university. "The good work by all three agencies led to this arrest."
Saddler's total bond for the three charges is set at $150,000.
He is still in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
