A familiar face is back in the president's office at East Mississippi Community College.
EMCC Board of Trustees Chairman Jimmie Moore confirmed Thursday that Rick Young -- who served as EMCC President for 12 years -- will serve as interim president as the school looks for a permanent replacement for Thomas Huebner, who resigned May 7.
"Dr. Young accepted the position (Wednesday)," Moore said. "He will serve as president until we selected a permanent president."
Young served as EMCC's president from 2004 until his retirement in 2015. He had been with EMCC for 40 years, a tenure which included roles as a marketing professor and as vice president of EMCC's Golden Triangle campus and Mayhew.
"We had three applicants for the interim president," Moore said. "The board voted unanimously for Dr. Young. His experience and knowledge of the EMCC system is a major plus. We're happy that he applied."
Huebner succeeded Young as EMCC president in July 2015.
In April, Meridian Community College announced that Huebner was one of five finalists for the president's job at MCC and was scheduled to interview for the position on May 30.
Moore said the search process for a permanent president will begin in June.
"I think it would be optimistic to think we could have a new president in place by the time school starts in the fall," Moore said. "But we're confident that Dr. Young will do a great job until we find a permanent president. I think the board feels really good about the situation."
