WCBI-TV in Columbus restored cable signal to Comcast subscribers Tuesday night and is working on Metrocast next, the station”s general manager said Wednesday. Viewers receiving over-the-air signals, however, may have to wait up to two weeks.
Bobby Berry, general manager of WCBI, said the transmitter glitch which interrupted signals outside of Lowndes County is being addressed. Comcast, which serves West Point, Tupelo, Okolona, Chickasaw County and Itawamba County, has restored service via a fiber link. Metrocast, which serves Starkville, is working to do the same, Berry said.
Satellite companies are working diligently to restore the WCBI signal to customers who have been rerouted for the time being, he added.
“The only reason (satellite customers) are watching New York or Greenwood/Greenville is because we wanted them to be able to watch the CBS shows they love,” said Berry.
Satellite customers make up more than half of WCBI”s market.
“We understand they”re missing their local news and ”Andy Griffith.” Please be patient,” he said.
Over-the-air customers, which make up just 3 percent of WCBI”s market, may see their signal interrupted for up to two weeks.
The station reaches about 250,000 households.
