With the help of a national author, one local ministry is combating fatherlessness.
The Father”s Child Ministry in Columbus will hold the “Fight for the Family 2010 Fatherhood Celebration” on June 26 at 10 a.m.
The rally will feature evangelist R.V. Brown, who is the author of the book “Step Up To The Plate, Dad!” and the president of Outreach to America”s Youth Inc. There will be praise and worship as well as door prizes. Admission is free.
The Father”s Child Ministry is run by Edward Yeates and was started as a way to “fight for families and communities.” On the organization”s website, Yeates lists a simple challenge:
“Spend at least one hour a day with your child; spend at least one hour a month with a child not your own.”
The goal of the ministry is to work with fathers and children to educate and recover from the truancy of a father in the home.
“Fathers are absent in a lot of families,” board member Beth Jeffers said. “This rally is to raise awareness about the importance of the father being there.”
