A man was arrested last week after a woman accused him of stealing a car at gunpoint.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested Deondre Tyrone Bonner, 26, of 404 Tuscaloosa Road on Thursday, a day after he allegedly stole a woman’s silver 2012 Volkswagen Sport.
The victim, who was driving her cousin’s car, reported she knew Bonner through friends and had talked to him through text messages, but they had never met in-person. A friend had arranged for her to pick him up on July 18 at an apartment complex in north Columbus and drive him to “a lake” where they were going to “smoke and chill.” She didn’t know the area, so she was giving him directions when he asked her to stop the car so he could use the restroom. When he got out of the vehicle, he pulled a handgun out of his waistband, threatened to kill her and demanded money.
Bonner told her to get in the back seat as he began searching the car, but instead she jumped out of the car and ran off, the victim said.
The victim was able to identify Bonner to investigators. The vehicle had GPS tracker installed, leading investigators to 1328 Spivey Road. The vehicle was found parked at a vacant house where Bonner was also apprehended. He has been released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
